Exam Week Without Stress: A Calm Routine That Works

Exams a calm routineExam Week

Children rarely do badly in exams because they did not study. Far more often it is because they slept late, panicked, or spent the evening before trying to learn everything at once. A simple, steady routine for exam week takes most of that away.

Plan the week on one sheet

Sit with your child on the weekend before exams and make a one-page plan together: which subject on which day, and what to revise each evening. Stick it on the wall. A plan that can be seen is a plan that gets followed.

Short sessions, real breaks

  • Classes I to V: two or three sessions of 25 minutes each evening
  • Classes VI to VIII: three sessions of 35 minutes
  • Classes IX and above: 45-minute sessions with 10-minute breaks

Breaks should be real breaks: a walk, a snack, a stretch. Scrolling a phone is not a break; it tires the eyes and the mind.

Practise, do not just read

Reading the chapter again feels like work but sticks poorly. Writing answers, solving sums and explaining a topic out loud to a parent sticks far better. Use the practice papers from the class teacher, and time them like the real exam once or twice.

Sleep is part of revision

The brain sorts and stores what it learnt during sleep. A child who sleeps eight to nine hours remembers more than one who stays up late with books. No new topics after dinner; just a quick look at notes and then bed.

On the morning of the exam

A normal breakfast, a calm drive or bus ride, and no last-minute questions in the car. Check the pencil box, the admit card and the water bottle ready the evening before. Send your child off with a smile and "Do your best", not with "Don't forget the formulas!"

Parents also ask

How much should a Class 3 child study during exams?

About an hour each evening, in two or three short sessions, is plenty. Rest and play matter just as much.

Where do I get practice papers?

Class teachers share practice worksheets on the parent app two weeks before every term exam.

My child panics in exams. How can I help?

Speak with the class teacher or our counsellor. Simple breathing exercises and timed practice at home help a lot.
